Roberto Bettega - 288.97 Performance Pts
Born: 27/12/1950 Turin, Italy
Position: Forward Height: 1.84m Weight: 74kg
Bettega
was a free-scoring striker, and a multiple Serie A winner with Juventus,
winning 7 titles. He wasn't quite a one club man - a loan spell with Varese at
the start of his career was the only brief departure from Turin during his
14-year stint. Varese won promotion to Serie A in 1970, in his only season
there, so his parent club could see his potential; Bettega soon made his Serie
A debut with Juve and won the first of his titles 2 years later, despite
suffering from tuberculosis during the season. At international level, 42 caps
for Italy was a decent return, but he missed out on Italy's World Cup glory in
1982 due to injury. He left Serie A the following year, to see out his career
in the NASL with Toronto Blizzard. His connections with Juventus continued
after his retirement, having undertaken the role of vice-chairman from 1994 to
2006.
