Roy Keane - 286.96 Performance Pts
Born: 10/08/1971 Cork, Ireland
Position: Midfielder Height: 1.78m Weight: 81kg
An outstanding player and an inspirational captain. Keane
was renowned for numerous acts of aggression (mouthing off at Patrick Vieira in
the tunnel at Highbury, breaking Alf-Inge Haaland's leg in the Manchester
derby, amongst many others) but wasn't just a one-dimensional hard man - he
could pass, score and motivate those around him. His performance in the
Champions League Semi-Final for Manchester United against Juventus in 1999
epitomises this, even more so because his booking meant he was suspended for the
famous Treble-clinching Final. First came to prominence under Brian Clough at
Nottingham Forest - oh to be a fly on the wall in that dressing room - before
signing for Manchester United in 1993, going on to win 7 League titles. He went
from bottom of the league in 1992-93, as Forest were relegated, to top of the
league in 1993-94 as United won a League and Cup Double. He fell out with
numerous people during his career, including Mick McCarthy during the 2002
World Cup, and even Sir Alex Ferguson at the end of his United career. Despite
promotion to the Premier League with Sunderland in 2007, his managerial career
was not a great success and featured a disastrous spell at Ipswich. A regular
as a pundit since retirement, his insights are usually laced with heavy
criticism and negativity.
