Michel - 286.87 Performance Pts
Born: 23/03/1963 Madrid, Spain
Position: Midfielder Height: 1.82m Weight: 77kg
Michel was a key member of 'La Quinta del Buitre', a group of 5 academy players that achieved great success with Real Madrid in the 1980s. 5 successive La Liga titles were claimed between 1986 and 1990. The 1985-86 season was a memorable one for Michel; as well as his first league title, he also made his international debut that season and went on to appear in the 1986 World Cup finals in Mexico. He ended up with 66 caps for Spain, also appearing at Italia 90, scoring a hat-trick in the group game against South Korea. He's probably not on Carlos Valderrama's Christmas card list, having resorted to unusual tactics in Madrid's match against Valderrama's Real Valladolid in 1991. Possibly inspired by the attempt by Vinnie Jones 3 years earlier to subdue Paul Gascoigne, Michel interfered with the Colombian's personal equipment. He won a 6th La Liga title with Real towards the end of his career in 1995 and finished his playing days with Celaya in Mexico. After retirement he worked as a commentator, before embarking on his managerial career. He's coached in 5 countries - Spain, Greece, France, Mexico and is currently plying his trade in Saudi Arabia. His greatest managerial success has been 3 successive league titles with Olympiacos in Greece (2013-2015).
