Andy Wilson came to prominence as football entered the 20th century. Wilson had a successful 20-year career with The Wednesday, in the era before they decided to tell everyone that they were from Sheffield (they changed their name in 1929). 2 League titles in the 1900s, over 500 appearances and nearly 200 goals (both still club records) indicate the part that Wilson played during a successful period for the club. He moved to Sheffield from his native Scotland and won 6 international caps. He lost some of his best years to the First World War and made one final appearance for The Wednesday in 1920, aged 39.
