French midfielder Muller had a long and successful club career, firstly in his homeland, before achieving great things in Spain. He started out at Strasbourg, and also played for Toulouse, but his move to Stade de Reims in 1959 brought him this first trophy success. The 1960 Ligue Un title was secured in his first season there, and the feat was repeated in 1962. That year he moved to Real Madrid and won La Liga in each of his 3 years in the capital, from 1963 to 1965. He then crossed the El Clasico divide to join Barcelona and spent 3 seasons there without tasting La Liga success. He returned to Reims in 1968; they had fallen on hard times by then and were in the 2nd tier. They won promotion back to the top division in 1970, his final year as a professional. Muller would later manage a number of clubs in Spain and France, including Barcelona.
