Carles Puyol - 281.71 Performance Pts
Born: 13/04/1978 Le Pobla De Segur, Spain
Position: Central Defender Height: 1.78m Weight: 80kg
With his
distinctive curly hair and committed approach, Puyol was a notable presence in
the Barcelona and Spain defence for many years. A 15-year career with Barca
began with them in the relative doldrums; he didn't pick up a La Liga winners
medal until 2005, his 6th season. They'd even finished as low as 6th in 2003.
He picked up another 5 titles, plus 3 Champions Leagues, before his retirement
in 2014. Having been appointed club captain in 2004, he got to lift all these
trophies, and, as a proud Catalonian, described playing for Barcelona as
'living the dream'. He did well on the international stage as well, winning
exactly 100 caps. His most important moment was the winning goal in Spain's World
Cup semi-final victory over Germany in 2010. He was also part of the victorious
Euro 2008 side but missed the 2012 triumph through injury.
