'Even the greatest players feel pressure', said commentator Jimmy Armfield, following Baggio's crucial penalty miss to decide the 1994 World Cup Final shoot-out. Baggio had been Italy's best player and talisman on their run to the final, scoring 5 goals in the tournament, including 2 in the semi-final win against Bulgaria. He'd also had a decent showing four years earlier, at Italia 90, including a wonder goal against Czechoslovakia. Known as 'Il Divin Codino' (The Divine Ponytail), he won 56 caps in total and was an eye-catching player on the international stage for many years. His club career began in the lower divisions with Vicenza, before stepping up to the top flight in 1985 with Fiorentina. In 1990, he helped Fiorentina reach the 1990 UEFA Cup final, where they lost to Juventus; Baggio signed for the Turin side later that year. He finally won a Scudetto in 1995 with Juve, in his final season there, and repeated the feat the following season, in his first year with Milan. These were his only career league titles, and he also played for Bologna, Inter and Brescia; he scored over 200 Serie A goals during his career.
