Paul Breitner - 279.66 Performance Pts
Born: 05/09/1951 Kolbermoor, Germany
Position: Full Back Height: 1.76m Weight: 73kg
Breitner was renowned for having voluminous curly hair, and a powerful left-foot. He is also a member of an exclusive club, alongside Brazilians Vava and Pele, and Zidane & Mbappe for France, by having scored in 2 separate World Cup Finals. Breitner's penalty contributed to West Germany's victory over Holland in 1974, and he scored the German consolation goal in the 3-1 defeat against Italy 8 years later. He started and ended his club career in the same place - Bayern Munich - and, alongside 5 other team-mates, won both the European Cup and the World Cup in the same year (1974). Breitner left for Real Madrid immediately after this and won La Liga titles in his first 2 seasons in Spain. This was a surprise move, for someone with notably left-leaning political views, to sign for the establishment team when Spain was still under General Franco's dictatorial rule. After three years in Spain, he spent a season with a lower profile German side, Eintracht Braunschweig; he came back to Bayern in 1978, and spent 5 years there before ending his playing career. His two spells with Bayern resulted in 5 Bundesliga titles; adding his 2 triumphs with Real gives him a magnificent 7. Breitner did actually have a film career of sorts, starring as Sergeant Stark in the 1976 film, Potato Fritz.
