Léonard Specht - 276.75 Performance Pts
Born: 16/04/1954 Mommenheim, France
Position: Central Defender Height: 1.81m Weight: 80kg
Player,
manager and president- Specht certainly has strong ties with Strasbourg. There
were many ups and downs during his playing career there. He made his debut in
1973, and suffered relegation in 1976, despite Specht playing in every game
that season. Strasbourg won immediate promotion back to the top-flight,
followed by their finest hour 2 years later - the Ligue Un title. This 1979
success remains the only time they've been champions. Specht moved on to
Bordeaux in 1982, and became part of the side that dominated French football at
this time, winning league titles in 1984, 1985 and 1987. Whilst Bordeaux were
winning this 1987 title, Specht's former side Strasbourg were struggling in the
second tier. He returned, and helped them to win promotion in 1988, but they
slipped back down the following year, losing a relegation play-off to Brest.
Specht then finished playing and took charge of the team, but was unable to
lead them back to the top tier, suffering play-off heartbreak in each of his 2
seasons as manager. Latterly he took on the role as club president for a brief
spell in 2009.
