The
1939-40 season saw the return of league football following the Spanish Civil
War, and Panizo made his top-flight debut that year, with Athletic Bilbao. 3
years later, he was able to celebrate La Liga title success, with Athletic also
winning the Copa del Rey that same season. He left in 1955, after over 300
games, to spend a final season with another Bilbao side, 2nd tier Indautxu. He
wasn't appearing as regularly in his last couple of years with Athletic and retired in 1955. Panizo also won international
recognition, appearing in the 1950 World Cup. England had a tournament to
forget, with the infamous shock 1-0 defeat to the USA; Spain confounded the
misery by beating England 1-0 just 3 days later, with Panizo part of this
Spanish team.
