Luca Marchegiani - 276.35 Performance Pts
Born: 22/02/1966 Ancona, Italy
Position: Goalkeeper Height: 1.88m Weight: 77kg
Although
Marchegiani only won 9 caps for Italy, 3 of them were on the highest stage -
the 1994 World Cup. Most memorably he appeared as a substitute in the group
stage match against Norway, after first-choice keeper Gianluca Pagliuca was
sent off. Having started out in the lower divisions with Jesi and Brescia,
Marchegiani's career took off when he joined Torino in 1988, despite relegation
in his first full season. They made an immediate return, and he had many
admirers before signing for Lazio in 1993. His 10-year stint there was hugely
successful for both him and the club, winning titles at home (including the
2000 Serie A title) and in Europe (the 1999 Cup Winners' Cup). He spent a
couple of seasons with Chievo Verona before retiring in 2005. His son, Gabriele,
is also a professional goalkeeper.
