'You'll never beat Des Walker' was the popular chant directed at this accomplished centre-half. He established himself in the Nottingham Forest side of the late 80s that won 2 League Cups and regularly challenged for trophies. He was part of the England side that reached the semi-finals of the 1990 World Cup, and won 59 caps in total. Sadly for him he scored the own goal in the 1991 FA Cup Final that won the trophy for Spurs against Forest. He only ever scored one goal at the right end during his career, despite making over 800 professional appearances. He left Forest to play in Serie A for Sampdoria, returning after one season to join Sheffield Wednesday. Although he was a consistent, popular player at Wednesday, they didn't achieve much success whilst there, and they suffered relegation in 2000. He saw out his career back at Forest, by this time in the second tier. He kept a low profile during his career, and -preferred to do his talking on the pitch. His son Tyler is a professional footballer, also with Nottingham Forest, although he's had numerous loan spells in the lower divisions.
