Gorriz was starting to break into the Real Sociedad side at the beginning of the 1980s, which proved to be an ideal time to do so. The side from San Sebastian secured back-to-back La Liga titles in 1981 and 1982. By the time he hung up his boots in 1993, he'd played a club record 599 competitive matches. He also appeared in all 4 matches for Spain at Italia 90. A central defender, he weighed in with the occasional goal during his career, most notably the winner for Spain to seal a 2-1 group stage victory over Belgium at the 1990 tournament.
