midfield presence in the Bundesliga for 18 years. He spent the bulk of his time
with Bayer Leverkusen; he also represented Borussia Dortmund, Stuttgart, who he
joined in 2018 and finished his career at Arminia Bielefeld before retiring in
2022. He never managed to win a Bundesliga title in his career, though Leverkusen
were runners-up in 2011 (ironically behind Dortmund) and Dortmund came 2nd to
Bayern Munich in 2016.
