The 2010-11 season provides the smallest of blemishes on Robben's illustrious career. In 15 seasons with Chelsea, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, this was the only season where Robben's team finished outside the top two in the final league standings, as the Bavarians ended up in a catastrophic 3rd place. He did suffer a few injuries that season, and, since he'd become such an influential player for Bayern, partly explains their lack of trophy success that season. He started out with his local side, Groningen, and also played in Holland for PSV, winning the Eredivisie in 2003, before his arrival in England with Chelsea in 2004. Although he suffered a few injuries early on during his time at Stamford Bridge, he contributed to The Blues winning back-to-back Premier League titles, in 2005 and 2006. His move to Real Madrid led to La Liga success in his first season (2007-08), before moving to Germany in 2009 to embark on his outstanding career with Bayern. Unsurprisingly, given his impact elsewhere earlier in his career, he picked up a Bundesliga title in his debut season in Germany. 2013 was a redemption year for Bayern, and for Robben in particular. They travelled to Wembley for the all-German Champions League final against Borussia Dortmund. Robben's late winner secured the trophy, to ease the pain of Bayern's defeat in the final on penalties against Chelsea, Robben's former club, the previous year. Robben had missed a penalty in extra-time during the 2012 defeat, so the Wembley victory was even more special for him. 2013 also saw the start of Bayern's incredible run of Bundesliga success - the first of 7 successive titles that Robben won with them before finishing in 2019. Robben has been a pacy, skilful winger, and worked in tandem with Franck Ribery at Bayern for many years, providing a strong attacking threat down the flanks. He's been a key presence in the Dutch national side as well, most notably in the run to the 2010 World Cup Final. Robben had a clear chance in that game, a one-on-one with Iker Casillas, but the Spanish keeper thwarted him, and soon after, was picking up the trophy. He won 96 caps over a 14-year period. He returned to his first club, Groningen, for one final injury-hit season before retiring.
