Bernd Dürnberger - 273.20 Performance Pts
Born: 17/09/1953 Kirchanschoring, Germany
Position: Midfielder Height: 1.83m Weight: 80kg
Durnberger
was a one-club man, and it was the right club, and the right time, in terms of
winning trophies. He first appeared for Bayern Munich during the 1972-73
season; they were already reigning champions, and Durnberger helped them retain
their title. They won it again in 1974, thus completing an impressive
Bundesliga hat-trick. 1974 of course saw the start of Bayern's run of 3
consecutive European Cup victories - an even more impressive hat-trick.
Durnberger's most significant contribution during this run of European success
was a goal in the semi-final victory over Saint Etienne in 1975. Durnberger won
another 3 Bundesliga titles in the 1980s, including his final season, 1984-85,
to finish up with a personal haul of 5. Surprisingly, for such a consistent
performer with such a successful, high-profile club, Durnberger never won
international recognition for West Germany.
