French
footballer Jean Vincent was popular in the 1950s. He started out in 1950 with
Lille, winning a league title in 1954, as they finished a single point ahead of
reigning champions Reims. 1956 was a great year for Jean Vincent, as he signed
for Reims; he went on to win 3 more league titles with them, in 1958, 1960 and
1962. Jean Vincent's final season as a player ended in disappointment, as Reims
suffered relegation in 1964. He immediately began his managerial career and
took charge at several French club sides. His most notable managerial reign was
at Nantes, who he joined in 1976, and led them to 2 Ligue Un titles. Vincent also
made an impact on the international stage with France, playing and scoring at 2
successive World Cups - 1954 and 1958. Coincidentally he entered each
tournament having won a league championship medal a few weeks beforehand. His
involvement with the World Cup didn't end there - he coached Cameroon at the
1982 tournament.
