1974 was a great year for Marcial; he contributed his season's best goal tally of 17 as Barcelona were crowned La Liga champions. 10 years earlier, he'd made his debut for Elche, and moved on to Espanol after a couple of seasons. His time there started brightly, with a 3rd place finish in his first season, but ended in relegation disappointment in 1969, so he crossed the city to join Barcelona immediately after. Despite a couple of 2nd place finishes, Marcial was unable to repeat the 1974 title success, so he left the Camp Nou and spent the last 3 seasons of his career with Atletico Madrid. He returned to his first club, Elche, as manager, helping them win promotion from the 3rd tier in 1997.
