Italian striker Vialli had a glittering career with many highlights. He started out at Cremonese and made his name with Sampdoria. This was the most successful period in their history; 3 Coppa Italia victories, and the 1990 Cup Winners' Cup triumph (with Vialli scoring both goals in the final victory over Anderlecht) followed by their first, and so far, only, Scudetto in 1991. His last game for the Genoan side was the 1992 European Cup Final defeat against Barcelona, signing for Juventus shortly afterwards. Further Scudetto success arrived in 1995. Curiously, Vialli's last game for Juve was also the European Cup Final (by now rebranded as the Champions League) in 1996 - this time the enormous trophy was lifted, following victory over holders, Ajax. Vialli then arrived in the Premier League with Chelsea. During this period, Chelsea fell short of being league title contenders, but they were a successful cup team. Vialli became player-manager in 1998 and was on the pitch as they won the Cup Winners' Cup that year. He retired from playing at the end of the following season. Further success came during his time as manager only, with an FA Cup victory in 2000. He left his managerial role the next year, before having an indifferent spell in charge of Watford. He won over 50 caps for Italy, featuring prominently at Euro 1988, but being mainly on the side lines at Italia 90. Vialli sadly passed away at the far too young age of 58 in 2023.
