Roberto Carlos - 266.41 Performance Pts
Born: 10/04/1973 Garca, Brazil
Position: Full Back Height: 1.68m Weight: 73kg
Despite winning
over 100 caps for Brazil, and appearing in 2 consecutive World Cup finals, Roberto
Carlos is best remembered for the gravity-defying free-kick against France in
1997. It's one of those moments that still provokes a look of disbelief no
matter how many times you see it. Carlos was also renowned for his power and having
thighs thicker than many peoples' bodies. He helped redefine the role of the
modern full-back, by combining athleticism and attacking prowess with defensive
duties. He first arrived in Europe in 1995 with Inter, before moving to Real
Madrid a year later, to embark on an outstanding 11-year spell at the Bernabeu.
He was an icon of this glittering side and was able to celebrate 4 La Liga wins
and 3 Champions League successes. He provided the assist for another famous, outstanding
goal - Zidane's volleyed winner in the 2002 final against Bayer Leverkusen. His
international career began in 1992 and he won the 2002 World Cup, laying to
rest the ghosts of the 1998 final defeat against France. He retired from
international football after the 2006 World Cup quarter-final defeat, ironically
against France. His career post-Real has taken him further afield, going on to
play and manage in Turkey, Azerbaijan, and India, as well as back in his native
Brazil.
