A highly talented player, much loved by fans of Liverpool, Everton, Newcastle and England. Linked up superbly with Gary Lineker, especially at Mexico 86 and Italia 90. Started at Carlisle and was on Manchester United's books without making a league appearance, before his career started to blossom at Newcastle. Promotion to the top division was achieved in 1983, and England recognition arrived in 1986. He left for Liverpool in the summer of 1987 and won the title in his debut season at Anfield. After a couple of seasons at Everton, Beardsley returned to Newcastle and helped them finish 3rd in 1994, in their first season back in the top flight. Sadly, his coaching career has been tarnished by allegations of bullying and inappropriate racist language whilst on the coaching staff at Newcastle.
