career goals for Briand. He broke into the Rennes first team
in 2002, and his career ran parallel to many French greats of the 21st
century, which partly explains his tally of only 5 international caps. He was
unfortunate with timing at club level as well. He joined Lyon in 2010, 2 years
after they secured their 7th consecutive (and so far, last) Ligue Un
title. He did get to lift 2 trophies with Lyon in 2012, however; the Coupe de
France (where he appeared as a substitute) and the Trophee des Champions. Briand
shone as this second trophy was secured. As Cup winners, Lyon defeated the reigning
Ligue Un champions, Montpellier on penalties. Not only did Briand score the
equaliser in normal time, but he also converted the winning penalty. He latterly
played for Guingamp and Bordeaux, before retiring in 2022.
