During the
1960s, Bologna were regularly at the top end of the Serie A standings and won
the Scudetto in 1964. They secured this title thanks to a 2-0 victory in a tiebreaker
against Inter, with both teams finishing level on points. This clean sheet was
preceded by 5 more in their final 5 league games, and they only conceded 18
goals during that season. Defensive midfielder Fogli played his part, missing
just one game that season. Fogli spent 3 seasons with Torino at the start of
his career, before joining Bologna in 1958. His 10-year stint with Bologna came
to end with his 1968 move to Milan. After 2 seasons he joined newly promoted
Catania, but they made a swift return to the 2nd level, finishing bottom of the
table in 1971 - Fogli's final season as a player. He also
played 13 times for Italy; one of his appearances was in the infamous 1-0
defeat against North Korea at the 1966 World Cup. He had a brief spell as
manager back at Bologna, in 1993.
