When they hear the name Marco Tardelli, fans of a certain age will immediately conjure up images of his iconic goal celebration, after scoring Italy's second goal in Italy's 3-1 victory over West Germany in the 1982 World Cup final. It was certainly the most important of the 6 goals that he scored for the national side. At club level, he joined Juventus in 1975, having previously played in the lower divisions for Pisa and Como. His 10-year spell in Turin was a great success. 5 Scudetti, and the 1985 European Cup, came his way, as well as international recognition, winning the first of his 81 caps in 1976. He left Juve after the European Cup victory, spending a couple of seasons with Inter, then latterly St Gallen in Switzerland. He's undertaken numerous coaching roles since ending his playing career, without much success, and he was assistant to Giovanni Trapattoni with the Republic of Ireland from 2008 to 2013.
