The shirt that Collar wore most often in his career was that of Atletico Madrid, appearing 470 times in La Liga during the 1950s and 60s. Early on, he had a couple of spells out on loan, with Cadiz and Murcia, before establishing himself with the Rojiblancos. The 1959-60 season saw the start of a superb run of success for Atletico, with Collar now established as captain. Spanish cup success arrived that season, with Collar scoring the equaliser in the 3-1 final victory over Real Madrid; they beat their city rivals to claim the cup again the following year. 1962 saw them achieve European success, lifting the Cup Winners' Cup. They reached the final of the same competition in 1963, but were unable to retain the trophy, losing 5-1 to Tottenham, with Collar scoring Atletico's consolation goal. Another Spanish cup was acquired in 1965, followed by La Liga the following season. Collar's goal that sealed a 3-0 win over Sabadell kickstarted a run of 7 successive league victories, to pip city rivals Real by a single point. Having finished league runners-up 4 times during his career, missing out to Real each time, this victory would have been really savoured. He featured regularly for Spain during this era, winning 16 caps overall. He spent a final season at the end of his career with Valencia, before retiring in 1970.
