Ron Harris - 260.40 Performance Pts
Born: 13/11/1944 Hackney, England
Position: Central Defender Height: 1.73m Weight: 75kg
His
nickname of 'Chopper' indicates his role as a hard man, and he took on this
role with relish during his long career with Chelsea. Somehow, he was sent off
only once during his career. He remained loyal to the Blues throughout the 60s
and 70s, despite two relegations, before leaving in 1980 to see out his career
with Brentford. 795 total appearances put Harris firmly into 'Chelsea legend'
status, and he was captain for much of his time there. He was the youngest FA
Cup final captain in 1967, when Chelsea lost to Spurs, and finally got to lift
the cup in 1970 after Chelsea beat Leeds (you know, the one where both sides
kicked seven bells out of each other). One of George Best's most famous goals
came after Harris had tried to scythe him in half with a tackle, which Best
somehow skilfully evaded. Harris became a greyhound trainer after
retirement.
