Napoli had to wait until 1987 to claim their first ever Scudetto, but they came close a few times in the 60s and 70s. Juliano was a mainstay of the side during this era and played nearly 400 league matches before moving to Bologna for his final season as a player, in 1978. Napoli suffered relegation in his debut season (1962-63), with Juliano making just one appearance. Their first season back in the top-flight, 1965-66, saw them finish a creditable 3rd. They achieved several high placings in the following years, including runners-up finishes in 1968 and 1975. Juliano was also captain of the Napoli side that lifted the 1976 Coppa Italia. He won 18 caps for Italy and came on as a substitute in the 1970 World Cup final - just in time to see Brazil's iconic 4th goal from Carlos Alberto hit the back of the net. He became involved with Napoli as sporting director after his retirement, and was instrumental in the signing of Diego Maradona, so although he didn't contribute to Scudetto success on the pitch, he can claim involvement via his role off the pitch.
