Despite having played for both Chelsea AND Manchester United – clubs not exactly known for their popularity amongst neutrals – Juan Mata is regarded as one of the most likeable Premier League players in recent years. His involvement with the charity Common Goal, pledging one per cent of his salary to charitable causes, has certainly enhanced his popularity, as has his attacking style of play. Scoring the final goal in Spain’s 4-0 victory over Italy to win Euro 2012 was a career highlight, certainly at international level; earlier that same year, he was a Champions League winner with Chelsea. A four year spell at Valencia preceded his time in England, and he won the first of his Spanish caps whilst there.
