An all-time great for Northern Ireland (55 caps) and for Burnley (nearly 500 games for The Clarets). He was part of the Northern Ireland side that reached the World Cup quarterfinals in 1958. Burnley were regularly challenging for honours during his time at Turf Moor. A league championship in 1960, 2 other top 3 finishes, and an FA Cup runner up spot in 1962 were highlights of a glorious period in their history. Tributes came pouring in when he died in 2018; he is widely regarded as Burnley's best ever player and has a Turf Moor stand named after him. He also played for Stoke (winning promotion in 1963) and Oldham before retiring.
