It probably seemed a good idea at the time. After 13 years in La Liga with Espanol and Valencia, Solsona moved to Ligue Un in 1983, joining Bastia. His 3rd season there, 1985-86, ended in relegation. He achieved an unwanted double the following year, suffering the same fate; this time it was Rennes who finished bottom of the Ligue Un table, with a paltry 5 wins all season. He started out with Espanol, who finished 3rd in La Liga in 1973; this was their highest finish in Solsona's 8 seasons with the club. He moved to Valencia and won the Copa del Rey in his first full season (1978-79) before going on to lift the Cup Winners' Cup the following year. Arsenal were the defeated finalists in 1980, on penalties - Solsona converted his kick, something that 2 club icons (Kempes for Valencia, and Brady for Arsenal) had failed to do
