José Ramón Alexanko - 258.00 Performance Pts

Position: Central Defender Height: 1.82m Weight: 81kg
The 1982 World Cup wasn't Spain's finest hour, and the hosts were eliminated at the second group stage, after a 0-0 draw against England. This game saw the curtain drawn on the international careers of some iconic England players - Trevor Brooking, Kevin Keegan and Mick Mills. It was also the final international appearance of Alexanko, aged just 26. He continued his club career for another 10 seasons and ended up with 4 La Liga titles under his belt. He was also part of the 1992 European Cup winning side; although he was no longer a first-team regular at this stage, he came on as a substitute in extra time in the final, replacing Pep Guardiola. Having missed a penalty when captaining Barcelona in the shoot-out defeat to Romanian champions Steaua Bucharest in the 1986 final, this gave Alexanko some form of redemption. He started out at Athletic Bilbao in 1976, and won the first of his 34 caps for Spain whilst there, before his 1980 move to Barcelona. After retirement he took on various coaching roles, including at Barcelona and coincidentally, given the 1986 European cup defeat, in Romania
