Born: 11/09/1962    Bilbao, Spain

Position: Forward     Height: 1.88m    Weight: 80kg

Salinas spent his peak years with Barcelona and was part of the trophy-laden side of the early 90s that won the 1992 Champions League, as well as 4 successive La Liga titles from 1991 to 1994. Barca also won the 1989 European Cup Winners' Cup, with Salinas scoring in the 2-0 final victory over Sampdoria. He'd tasted La Liga success earlier in his career with his first club, Athletic Bilbao, as the Basques won consecutive league titles in 1983 and 1984, although he hadn't yet established himself as a regular. 1986 was an eventful year for Salinas. He made his debut for Spain in January and scored in the group game against Northern Ireland at the World Cup in Mexico. He joined Atletico Madrid the same year and spent 2 seasons there before his move to Barcelona. He also played in 2 more World Cups (Italia 90 and USA 94). In the 1994 quarter-final against Italy, he missed a chance with the score at 1-1, and the Italians went on to win. Also in 1994, now no longer a first choice at Barcelona, he moved to Deportivo La Coruna, and achieved a 2nd place finish in his only season there. He also played for Sporting Gijon, then Yokohoma in the J-League, before finishing his career at Alaves. His brother Francisco was also a professional player, and they were team-mates at Athletic Bilbao - 2 proud Basque brothers playing for their hometown club. Francisco also won 2 caps for Spain, appearing alongside his brother both times.
