Graeme Souness - 255.10 Performance Pts
Born: 06/05/1953 Edinburgh, Scotland
Position: Midfielder Height: 1.80m Weight: 75kg
Hard as nails, and very skilful, Souness was Liverpool
captain during their successful era of the late 70s and early 80s, winning 5
league titles. He even appeared in the TV series 'The Boys from the
Blackstuff', which was based in Liverpool. He had previously played for
Middlesbrough before his 1978 move to Anfield. After a spell in Serie A with
Sampdoria, he joined Glasgow Rangers in 1986, and led them to a period of great
success, whilst also maintaining his questionable disciplinary record. Souness returned
to Liverpool as manager in 1991 but undid a lot of the goodwill he earned as a
player. His subsequent managerial career has been mixed, and not without
controversy. Planting a Galatasaray flag on the pitch of their main rivals
(Fenerbahce) following a cup final victory was an incendiary move. He won
promotion and the League Cup with Blackburn, but also had uninspiring spells at
Newcastle, and at Southampton, where he inexplicably picked the infamous and
awful Ali Dia, based on a flimsy recommendation. He now features regularly as a
pundit on Sky Sports.
