500. Pietro Paolo Virdis

Pietro Paolo Virdis - 253.22 Performance Pts

Born: 26/06/1957    Sassari, Italy

Position: Forward    Height: 1.82m    Weight: 73kg

Virdis made his Serie A debut in the 1974-75 season as a teenager with Cagliari, on his native Sardinia. He retired 16 seasons later in 1991, after finishing his career with Lecce. In between he played for Juventus (winning Serie A titles in 1978 and 1982), Udinese and Milan; he also had a brief spell back at Cagliari sandwiched in between his 2 stints with Juve. His peak years were with Milan; he was league top-scorer in 1987, with 17 goals, Serie A champion in 1988, and European Cup winner in 1989. Not a bad 3 years. He came off the bench in the 1989 final against Steaua Bucharest, by which time Milan were already 4-0 up. He's not as well-known as some of the other members of this vintage Milan side (Gullit, Van Basten, Baresi etc), and also never appeared for Italy at international level. He's dabbled in management in the lower leagues, without much success, so his profile remains much lower than many of his former Milan team-mates.
