With a name like 'Jock' you'd expect Rutherford to have been a Scot who migrated south to seek his footballing fortune. Not quite - he was born in the North East, and spent the early part of his career at Newcastle. He won 3 league titles and an FA Cup with Newcastle in the early part of the 20th century, before signing for Arsenal (then Woolwich Arsenal, and then a Second Division club) in 1913. The First World War got in the way of his career but he played on for many years after the conflict. His last appearance for Arsenal came in 1926, aged 41, and he is still their oldest ever player. Also, cast your mind back to 'Super Saturday' during the 2012 London Olympics. That guy winning the long jump gold medal was Greg Rutherford - Jock's great-grandson.
