Born: 15/05/1933 Elvington, England Died: 01/10/2013 Himley, England
Position: Midfielder Height: 1.78m Weight: 68kg
One of the
stars of the successful Wolves team of the 1950s, making over 450 appearances.
He won 3 League titles and an FA Cup during his 15 years at Molineux.
International recognition also came his way, and he featured at the 1958 World
Cup for England. He was also part of the Wolves side that beat Honved 3-2 in a
floodlit friendly in 1954, which led to their manager Stan Cullis claiming that
they were 'champions of the world'. Perhaps an exaggeration, but Wolves were
English champions at the time, and this victory helped pave the way for
European football (the first European Cup was held the following season). After
leaving Wolves in 1965, he played for Shrewsbury, Aston Villa and Stockport. A
skilful forward with the ability to beat players, he was the favourite player
of a young kid from Belfast who was watching the floodlit friendlies - George
Best. Whatever happened to him?
